ABOUT
Born in Oradea (Nagyvárad), Barna Péli (1972) is one of the exciting innovators in contemporary Hungarian sculpture. After graduating from the Sculpture Department of the Budapest University of Fine Arts in 2000, he quickly turned away from established sculptural methods and began forging his own path.
His innovative use of materials – primarily polyurethane foam – allows him to simultaneously apply both additive and subtractive sculptural techniques. He defines his art as "watercolor sculpture."
Following his exhibitions, he regularly dismantles his figures so they can be reborn as characters in new works, thus creating a unique artistic cycle in which certain figures have been traveling with him for years, continuously transforming.
The focus of his art lies in his personal stories and memories, which he presents in multi-figure installations, while also reflecting on current social issues.
His works can be found in numerous significant collections, and his artistic practice has been recognized with several prestigious fine art awards.

MORE
Following his graduation in 2000 at the Hungarian University of Fine Arts, Barna Péli has presented his works in numerous solo and group exhibitions. A characteristic feature of his art is the creation of multi-figure installations, in which he condenses his personal past, childhood experiences, as well as former encounters and characters that have appeared in his life. During part of his creative period, he worked as an artist at the now-defunct Dovin Gallery.
The essence of the BAGUDA association is a friendship spanning 30 years between ten sculptors, which inspires, influences, helps, and shapes the activities of all the artists. This collaboration is characterized by coincidences and differences, enriched by the experience of numerous individual and joint exhibitions.
