STANDING OVATION

My own installation, exhibited as part of the group exhibition, received the title 'Standing Ovation'. This multi-figure installation commemorates children's toys that were destroyed, burned, and abandoned to their fate, but the figures are also participants in the final round of casting for new 'transitional objects' who will play the role of the ground-up toys. It was inspired by a specific personal experience.

In contrast to the term hypnagogia, which is used to summarize the states of consciousness leading from wakefulness to sleep, the word hypnopompia was coined by Frederick Myers in 1904 from the Greek words for sleep (hypnos) and manner of sending (pompe) to describe the opposite direction, awakening from sleep. At the boundary between wakefulness and sleep, many sensory effects can occur, thought processes differ from those during wakefulness, and boundaries, including one's own boundaries, become blurred. This can mean openness, sensitivity with an inward projection of the environment and diffuse attention, characterized by the free flow of thoughts and their independence from logic. It is this fluid state that we often seek as creators and also recommend to the viewer.
